Alaska Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola and her family suffered minor injuries when another driver struck their vehicle on Saturday night, her campaign said. They were on their way to the Alaska Federation of Natives annual banquet, and the injuries required medical attention. "Mary and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits," campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said, according to CBS News.
On the advice of medical professionals, Peltola, 53, is moving events planned for Sunday and Monday in Fairbanks and Bethel to later in the week. Bruce said Peltola is "disappointed that the accident is delaying the start of her Alaska Always Tour," which was set to run until Oct. 31 in Palmer.
Peltola, the top vote-getter in the August primary, is seeking to unseat Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan on Nov. 3. The race is also being fought in court: the Justice Department has sued over a second candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan and seeks to block certification if the senator loses.
