Germany international Nadiem Amiri is unhappy with his start to the season at Mainz 05. After Saturday's 2-3 home defeat to Werder Bremen, the 29-year-old told reporters in the mixed zone, according to SPOX, that it bothers him that he has only one assist and no goal after seven matchdays. He said he is his own harshest critic and asked for patience. Last season Amiri scored twelve goals, according to SPOX.
According to SPOX, he cited the short break after the summer World Cup as one reason, saying it had not done him good mentally or physically. After the match he had a verbal exchange with Bremen's two-goal striker Niclas Füllkrug. Füllkrug told DAZN, according to SPOX, that Amiri had not been entirely respectful towards a team-mate; Amiri played it down on Sky, saying he knows Füllkrug from the national team.
In November Jürgen Klopp's side play Nations League matches in Serbia (13 Nov) and against the Netherlands in Berlin (16 Nov). The video shows the post-match press conference from the Werder Bremen YouTube channel.
