Adidas Originals has launched “adiSignature”, a new line developed together with US designer Willy Chavarria. Chavarria acts as creative advisor, so this is not a collaboration with his own label. “AdiSignature is a framework that Adidas and I developed together that will evolve over years,” he said.
The first collection went on sale on 23 October. It reworks staples from the 1980s, above all the Firebird and SST tracksuits. It uses heavyweight 420g brushed-back fleece, with reworked stitching, ribbing, waistband heights and zipper pulls, plus dropped shoulders, roomier sweatpants and one-piece hood constructions.
The range spans hoodies, full-zip jackets, crewneck sweatshirts, T-shirts, tank tops and sweatpants in colour blocking from fluorescent yellow to hunter green. A “NY block” pack draws on an archival 1980s Adidas jogging suit. The campaign was photographed by Brianna Capozzi and styled by Georgia Pendlebury. Chavarria previously designed a collection with Adidas Originals celebrating his Chicano heritage.
