Aston Villa beat Manchester City 2-1 at Villa Park on Saturday, inflicting City's first Premier League defeat of the season. Nicolas Jackson scored in the sixth minute after a defensive error, set up by John McGinn. Erling Haaland headed City level in the 52nd minute before Jackson struck the winner in the 60th.
The result denied City a club-record eighth consecutive league win, the club said. It was City's first league loss under manager Enzo Maresca, Sky Sports reported. Villa moved up to sixth.
"I don't think we deserved to lose today - but we lost," Maresca told the club's website. He told Sky Sports: "We lost because we were not being clinical enough in their box."
