Tate McRae released 'Housewife' on 16 October, her first new song this year; her last album, 'So Close To What', came out in 2025. On Jimmy Fallon's show she described it as 'kind of about a woman who can't be contained'. According to McRae, the video was shot in the south of France.
Rolling Stone calls the video 'lavish': McRae dances through a mansion, across a yacht and through sweeping landscapes, cavorts with suitors and pushes a pram filled with cash. According to the magazine, McRae bulldozes stereotypes: the song is about making a lot of money, being her own 'housewife' and keeping lovers on the side.
In Germany, 'Housewife' is McRae's first number one on the official singles chart, according to GfK Entertainment; Taylor Swift's 'Patient Zero' slipped to number three. The video is the official music video on the TateMcRaeVEVO channel.
