Berlin police have arrested a 20-year-old driver in the Spandau district who allegedly fled a traffic check shortly after midnight. Officers tried to inspect his car at a gas station on Ruhlebener Strasse, police said. The driver is said to have sped off toward Charlottenburger Chaussee and stopped, of all places, in front of a police station. He and two passengers ran, but officers caught the driver.
During the arrest the suspect admitted to having a firearm in the car, police said, and officers seized it. He also acknowledged drinking alcohol and taking other drugs, according to police.
On the orders of prosecutors, officers searched the 20-year-old's apartment and found narcotics as well as advertising material for so-called "cocaine taxis," or drug deliveries on demand, police said. The car was seized. The man is under investigation for several offenses; no injuries were reported.
