Stan Wawrinka has won one more marathon on his farewell tour. The 41-year-old Swiss beat 20-year-old Spaniard Martín Landaluce 6-3, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5) at the ATP 250 event in Lyon. After 2 hours 46 minutes, the veteran converted his fifth match point in the deciding-set tie-break, Landaluce having saved three at 5-6.

Wawrinka, who announced in December 2025 that 2026 would be his final season, is only around No. 148 in the live rankings. Landaluce (No. 67) broke into the top 100 for the first time in 2026 after quarter-finals in Miami and Rome. According to Punto de Break, Wawrinka will play his final official tournament in Basel next week.

In the round of 16, Wawrinka faces top seed Flavio Cobolli of Italy, who needs every point in the race for the ATP Finals in Turin. The match is scheduled for Thursday.
