After a weekend of violence and looting, France has imposed partial curfews in several cities. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu instructed prefects to take "very limited" and "localised" measures. In Paris, the curfew ran overnight into Tuesday from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. around Place de la République and the Les Halles shopping district, and gatherings and demonstrations in the capital were banned from 8 p.m. on Monday. According to AFP, curfews also apply in Lille and Lyon. In Lille and other northern cities, a curfew for minors from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. has applied since Monday for two days; in Nice, a curfew for minors applied from 9 p.m. In Marseille, the prefect banned gatherings between noon and 8 p.m. on Monday.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez offered his resignation on Sunday, but President Emmanuel Macron refused it, saying command of the security forces must remain uninterrupted. Nuñez acknowledged that police had "lost control" in some cities. According to AFP, Lecornu did not rule out a state of emergency. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin reported 2,513 people taken into custody, 67 of them jailed. According to the authorities, at least 3,000 businesses were damaged.

Digital Minister Anne Le Hénanff summoned representatives of Vinted and eBay and urged the platforms to remove listings of stolen goods. Organisers have called for new protests next Saturday. The EU called the violence "unacceptable", and Germany updated its travel advice for France.
