TIME published its list of the year's best inventions on 15 October 2026 – 300 entries chosen for originality, efficacy, ambition and impact. Among them is a windbreaker from Armedangels, a fashion brand founded in Cologne in 2007. TIME describes it as “petroleum-free and functional”.

According to TIME, conventional windbreakers are usually made from polyester or nylon and treated with PFAS, the so-called forever chemicals. Armedangels instead uses Tencel Lyocell, a wood-pulp fibre that is tightly woven and given a PFAS-free water-repellent finish. The jacket is breathable and does not shed microplastics.

“Nature holds the solution to the problems we face as an industry,” TIME quotes Julia Kirschner, Armedangels' impact and innovation director. According to the brand, the jacket launched in March 2026 with the spring/summer collection and is slightly water-repellent but not waterproof.
