'Street Fighter' grossed $12.5 million in North America on Friday, including previews, at 3,575 theaters. According to Deadline, the Legendary and Paramount film is heading for an opening weekend of around $30 million – at the lower end of expectations. The net cost, shared by Legendary and Capcom, is $82 million.
The real surprise is Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's 'You Can See Everything'. A24's three-hour documentary about former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans took $5.3 million on Friday at just 885 theaters. It is projected to open to around $12 million – more than the $7.1 million of 'Melania', the recent documentary opening record.
20th Century Studios' 'Whalefall' is performing weaker: after $2.6 million on Friday it is expected to take $6 million to $7 million, having initially been forecast above $11 million. Focus Features' new 'Sense & Sensibility' is heading for around $6 million. All figures are estimates; official weekend results are still to come.
