Hertha Berlin missed out on a record start in Germany's second division after being held to a 0-0 draw at Holstein Kiel on Friday, dropping points for the first time this season. An eighth win from eight games would have equalled Hannover 96's mark from the 1986/87 season.
Hertha dominated early but were repeatedly denied by Kiel goalkeeper Timon Weiner, the Tagesspiegel reported. Sebastian Groenning wasted the best chance, heading wide of an open goal, while at the other end Hertha keeper Marius Gersbeck saved from Phil Harres and Adrian Kapralik.
Stefan Leitl's side remain unbeaten at the top of the table and kept their first clean sheet since the opening matchday. Kiel, coached by Tim Walter, are winless in seven league games and stay bottom.
