Woolrich Europe goes fur-free – all new collections without fur from 2027

After protests and more than 200,000 emails from animal welfare campaigners, outdoor apparel maker Woolrich Europe will drop fur from new collections from January 2027.

Outdoor apparel maker Woolrich Europe is giving up real fur. From 1 January 2027 all new collections will be fur-free, FashionUnited and FashionNetwork reported on Wednesday. According to FashionNetwork, new fur garments will only be produced until the end of 2026 and remaining stock will be sold off. The company is also working to extend the commitment beyond Europe. Woolrich Europe has belonged to Italy's BasicNet group since November 2025 and runs 33 monobrand and outlet stores worldwide, 23 of them in the EU.

The move follows a campaign by animal welfare groups. According to the Fur Free Alliance, supporters sent more than 200,000 emails to the company and protested outside stores in cities including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Milan and Munich. Woolrich is joining the Fur Free Retailer Programme, which has around 1,700 brands and retailers. Competitors such as Canada Goose and Moncler had already dropped fur.

"More brands are recognising that consumers expect stylish and functional products that do not rely on animal suffering," said Thomas Pietsch of Four Paws. The European Commission is preparing its response to the "Fur Free Europe" citizens' initiative, which gathered more than 1.5 million signatures calling for an end to fur farming and fur sales in the EU. According to FashionNetwork, fur farming is already banned in 24 European countries.
