VfL Bochum came from behind to beat Energie Cottbus 2-1 in Friday's opening match of the 10th round of Germany's second division. Under the floodlights at the LEAG Energie Stadion, the hosts controlled the first half and went ahead in the 21st minute when Tolcay Ciğerci converted a penalty after Bochum goalkeeper Timo Horn fouled Lucas Copado. Cottbus led 1-0 at halftime.

The second half turned chaotic, with three goals disallowed in quick succession. A Philipp Hofmann goal in the 53rd minute was ruled out for offside after a video review, a Cottbus effort from Justin Butler was then chalked off, and Hofmann was flagged offside again in the 61st minute. The Bochum striker finally levelled in the 70th minute from a Christian Rasmussen pass. Two minutes from time, Rasmussen ran through alone on goal from a Mats Pannewig ball and scored the winner.

Cottbus have not won a league game since a 3-0 victory at Karlsruhe on the fifth matchday. In their previous match, on matchday nine, Claus-Dieter Wollitz's team drew 1-1 at Heidenheim.
