The upgraded version of Shenmue III is coming later than planned: publisher ININ Games and developer Ys Net have pushed the release to early 2027, without a specific date yet. Development is taking time to get everything right, but the team is making great progress on the final details, according to a team statement reported by Twisted Voxel. Playfront says the delay was also confirmed in an ININ newsletter, which argued that an unfinished port could damage the series.

Shenmue III Enhanced was announced in August 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, including a physical cartridge on Switch 2. In March, series creator Yu Suzuki had still promised a launch this year, according to GamingBolt. Promised improvements include sharper visuals with 4K textures, better performance, more NPCs, a classic camera mode and gameplay and interface tweaks; the PC version adds DLSS and FSR.

The original was released in 2019 for PlayStation 4 and PC. According to Playfront, the re-release’s revamped camera system is meant above all to address criticism from back then; no dates have been set for new footage.
