NME: “UK rap's most vital storyteller”

Ceebo – “Bloccstar” review: Macbeth in Lambeth

UK-Rap · 3:16 · Release 02.10.2026

The south London rapper builds his new mixtape around Shakespeare's “Macbeth”: rise, fame and what you sacrifice for it. NME calls him UK rap's most vital storyteller.

Ceebo hails from Lambeth in south London and made his name with “LAMBETHNOTLA” (2024) and “blair babies” (2025) as a chronicler of his neighbourhood and his generation. His new mixtape “Bloccstar” came out on 2 October and is loosely modelled on Shakespeare's “Macbeth”: the closer mainstream success gets, the more his integrity wobbles. NME's Kyann-Sian Williams sums up the central question: “what do you do when the fame you've always wanted begins to look like a cage?”

After the intro skit “Something Wicked This Way Comes”, “Jangolova” (with Two Tone and OdzMoney) switches to party mode before bravado turns into self-criticism on “Macbeth's Soliloquy”, featuring Wretch 32. “H.I.T.H” reworks Ray BLK's 2016 song “My Hood”, while “Gets Like Dat” with UK drill figure Blanco served as the teaser. NME praises the sequencing and production and calls the record “a roadmap for those coming up behind him”.

DJ Mag is a little more reserved: the mixtape “never fully resolves its central contradiction”, though the final act makes Ceebo's accommodation with it feel “almost like a victory”.
