AFI Fest: Tarantino surprises with first 17 minutes of 'Cliff Booth'

After an IMAX screening of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', Tarantino showed the opening of David Fincher's Netflix follow-up in Hollywood.

At AFI Fest in Los Angeles, Quentin Tarantino surprised the audience on Friday evening: after an IMAX screening of his film 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' at the TCL Chinese Theatre and an on-stage conversation, he showed about 17 minutes of 'The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth'. Viewers had to put their phones away; Netflix confirmed the screening afterwards. According to What's on Netflix, David Fincher, who directed the follow-up from Tarantino's script, was also there.

According to a report by TheWrap, the film is set eight years after the first one. Brad Pitt's stuntman Cliff Booth now runs the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles – the theatre Tarantino has owned since 2007. It also mentions Peter Weller as Cliff's father and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the star of a fictional blaxploitation film.

On bringing the character back, Tarantino said he loves Cliff and 'the way that Brad played him'. The film opens worldwide on 25 November with a two-week exclusive IMAX run and streams on Netflix from 23 December.
