Jürgen Klopp is giving Nicolò Tresoldi time. “The boy has to decide at the moment when he can decide. And then that is absolutely fine,” the Germany coach told DAZN on Wednesday evening, according to SID. The 22-year-old Club Brugge striker, born in Sardinia and a Germany U21 player, can still choose between Germany and Italy.

In principle, the national team “doesn't have to chase anyone”, Klopp stressed – but that was “not aimed at Tresoldi”. Persuading someone to become a German international “can't really be right either. But we are not in that situation.” Of the forward he said: “Nico is a great lad who has developed superbly and still has a lot of potential to develop.”

According to Klopp, Italy coach Roberto Mancini has also already spoken to Tresoldi. The striker intends to make his decision only after the U21 European Championship in summer 2027.
