Kid Cudi is planning a film about the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. As Variety reports, the musician and actor has written the screenplay for 'Jean' himself and intends to direct and star. Filming is set to begin in 2027. No studio or producers have been named so far.
On social media, Cudi wrote that people had asked him for years about playing Basquiat, and that this year he decided to write the script himself. The film, he said, 'will be a love letter to Jean, the 80s and NY city'. He also shared photos from an early wardrobe test.
It is not Cudi's only directing project: his feature directorial debut, the drama 'Doe', went into production in Los Angeles earlier this year, according to Variety.
