After 6-1 rout, Leipzig head to Bernabeu as Demichelis demands courage

Four days after a 6-1 thrashing at Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig face another daunting task in the Champions League, visiting Real Madrid on Wednesday (2100 CET) in the third round of the league phase. Coach Martín Demichelis, under pressure after the defeat in Munich, called for a change in attitude. It is about "being alert and playing our game, with courage and personality," the Argentine said, adding: "Madrid's attack will be very dangerous."

Captain David Raum said the mood had initially hit rock bottom after the Bundesliga game, but the squad talked it through the following day. "Tomorrow we have the chance to show a different face," the Germany international said. Above all, the intensity had been lacking in Munich, he said, and the team's game plan depends on it. Sporting director Marcel Schäfer had said the side failed in every area after the 6-1 loss.

There was some good news: Christoph Baumgartner completed the full final training session after more than four months out with a thigh muscle injury and is a possible substitute option, according to rblive, although UEFA team news still lists him as unavailable. UEFA also lists Assan Ouédraogo as out with a shoulder injury, while Real Madrid are without Raúl Asencio and Rodrygo. Leipzig lost 4-1 at Como and beat PSV in their first two Champions League games.
