Borussia Dortmund won 2-1 (1-1) at FK Sabah in Baku in the Champions League – with several Germany internationals on the pitch. Nico Schlotterbeck captained the side and was given a 2 (on the German school scale) by ran: he marshalled the defence and was almost impossible to beat in duels. His only blemish, according to ran, was his positioning for Aden McCarthy's equaliser (39').
Waldemar Anton received a 3 – strong in the tackle, but too far from the scorer for the goal conceded. Felix Nmecha was also rated 3: according to ran, his shot led to the 1-0, though he faded noticeably late in the first half. Maximilian Beier came on in the 77th minute and worked the left flank.
Serhou Guirassy scored both Dortmund goals (10', 53'). Coach Niko Kovač called it hard work but a thoroughly deserved win. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel said it had been harder than it needed to be. Dortmund have six points from three games.
