Several players from Germany's national-team pool took centre stage in VfB Stuttgart's 1-1 (1-0) draw with Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night. Jamie Leweling gave Stuttgart the lead in the 36th minute with a left-footed shot from around 17 metres, before Julián Álvarez equalised shortly after the break. Atlético's Morten Hjulmand was sent off in the 64th minute for a heavy foul on Angelo Stiller – but Stuttgart could not find a second goal.

Chris Führich was named man of the match. He said he was more proud of the performance than disappointed with the result, but that Stuttgart had been the better side and it ultimately felt like two points lost. Deniz Undav also spoke of two points dropped. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß said the team could be very proud of its performance but was still a little disappointed.

Left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt received Stuttgart's second-best rating after Leweling in fussballnationalmannschaft.net's data analysis. Stuttgart have seven points from three games and remain unbeaten; their next Champions League opponent is Galatasaray on 3 November.
