Bayern Munich will be without Joshua Kimmich for Wednesday night's Champions League home game against Arsenal. The club announced in the morning that the 31-year-old is not in the squad following a bereavement in his immediate family. Kimmich had already missed Tuesday's final training session, when personal reasons were given.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the club asked that "their privacy and grief be respected" and said: "With deep sympathy, the whole of FC Bayern stands by Joshua Kimmich's side." The club did not say when the Germany captain will return.
Bayern's squad is already stretched before the 9 p.m. German time kickoff at the Allianz Arena: Michael Olise is suspended after being sent off for a second yellow card in Stavanger. The club has not officially said whether coach Vincent Kompany will be on the touchline after a viral infection; according to Bild, he was back on the pitch for the warm-up on Wednesday morning.
