Training factory for humanoids: Italy's Generative Bionics plans Europe's largest with AMD

Italian robotics company Generative Bionics says it will build Europe's largest data factory for physical AI. The company announced the plan on Wednesday at CES Unveiled in Milan. The first 5,000-square-metre site in Italy is due to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2027, a second is planned elsewhere in Europe and a third is to serve global markets. The computing technology comes from AMD, with the network set to run on AMD's Helios rack-scale architecture.

In the factory, the company's own GENE.01 humanoid is to carry out industrial tasks while collecting vision, motion and touch data from its sensory skin. The tasks are recreated as digital twins in thousands of variations to train so-called World Action Models. "We are replicating the world, physically and digitally, to train humanoid robots at scale before they ever enter it," said chief executive Daniele Pucci.

Generative Bionics was founded in 2024 by researchers from the Italian Institute of Technology and raised a 70-million-euro seed round led by CDP Venture Capital, with AMD Ventures, Duferco, Eni Next, RoboIT and Tether. The company says the aim is to keep the data, models and know-how behind Europe's industrial humanoids on the continent. In a video on AMD's channel, the two companies discuss their collaboration.
