Two 11-year-old boys were seriously injured when a car taking part in a wedding convoy struck them in the Bavarian town of Weissenburg, police said. An 18-year-old driver lost control of his car on Saturday afternoon. The vehicle hit a property boundary, slid about 50 meters and struck the two children on the sidewalk.

Police said the boys suffered serious head injuries and were flown to hospital by rescue helicopter. A police spokesman said their lives were initially not in danger. The driver had held his license for only two months.

It was not yet clear why the car skidded. An expert has been called in to reconstruct the crash. The site was closed for about three hours, and the car was written off.
