Mike Malott won the UFC Edmonton main event inside the distance. Overnight into Sunday (German time), the 34-year-old Canadian caught Joaquin Buckley with a knee in their welterweight bout as Buckley was throwing a punch of his own. Buckley went down, and after one more punch referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight at 2:32 of the second round.
According to MMA Junkie, Malott is now 15-2-1 and has won five fights in a row. Buckley (21-9) lost for the third straight time after defeats to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady. The UFC awarded Malott one of four $100,000 performance bonuses.
"I'm on top of the world right now man, this is incredible," Malott said after the fight, according to Uncrowned. He did not call out a specific opponent, saying that was not his style, and said he wants "somebody in the top 10 at the very least, maybe top five" next.
