Manchester United face an anxious wait over Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo ahead of their Champions League match at Atlético Madrid. Both missed training at Carrington on Monday before the team's flight to Spain, the German news agency dpa reported. The club must decide whether they travel; United no longer publish travelling squads for European games.
Mainoo played the full match and Shaw stayed on until the fifth minute of stoppage time in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham, who equalised late despite having Rodrigo Bentancur sent off in the second half for headbutting Shaw. According to dpa, Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui are also out in Madrid, while Manuel Ugarte is a long-term absentee. Matthijs de Ligt trained on Monday as he steps up his recovery from a back injury.
Pressure is mounting on manager Michael Carrick, with United winless in four matches since beating Azerbaijan's Sabah 4-0 at the start of the league phase, according to dpa.
