Two days after Bayern Munich's 2-2 draw at FC Augsburg, German referees have addressed the most disputed moment of the match. Alex Feuerherdt, head of communications at the DFB's refereeing body, told kicker why Luis Díaz's 51st-minute goal was disallowed after a lengthy video review. Díaz had scored with an overhead kick from an Ismael Saibari cross.
The move began with a Joshua Kimmich free kick from which Josip Stanišić, standing offside, headed the ball. Augsburg's Han-Noah Massengo then tried to clear. According to Feuerherdt, the clearance did not take the ball far enough away from the original situation, meaning no new phase of play had begun and Stanišić's offside remained punishable.
Former Bundesliga referee Patrick Ittrich disagreed. "That is the classic next phase of play, and for me the goal should have stood," he told Sky, calling it a "very, very controversial decision". In all, Bayern had four goals ruled out for offside in the match refereed by Sven Jablonski. Augsburg had taken the lead through Robin Fellhauer after 8.4 seconds.
