A large fire swept across around 2,000 decares – about 200 hectares – in the Burgas region on Friday. It broke out in the afternoon in the Piramidata holiday-home area near the village of Izvorishte. Strong gusts drove the flames towards the neighbouring villages of Bryastovets and Draganovo; at one point they were about 200 metres from the entrance to Bryastovets.

Nine fire engines were deployed, backed by volunteers and residents with buckets and shovels. Heavy machinery cut firebreaks. According to BNT, several garden plots, an uninhabited building and an orchard were damaged; the report said residents were not in danger.

By the evening, firefighters reported that the fire had been contained. Crews remained on site until it was fully extinguished. Smoke drifted towards Draganovo, and no cause had initially been given.
