Bayern Munich will face second-division 1. FC Magdeburg in the German Cup second round on Wednesday night without head coach Vincent Kompany. The 40-year-old Belgian collapsed during an under-23 training session on Friday, according to media reports, and remains in hospital, the Abendzeitung newspaper reported. The exact cause is still unclear and further examinations are planned. Sporting director Max Eberl has said Kompany will be out for several weeks, according to Sky.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks, who visited Kompany on Monday, will take charge on the touchline. Danks said Kompany was in good spirits and appeared to be improving day by day, but declined to make any major predictions. According to the Abendzeitung, the club hopes Kompany can return for the home game against Cologne on Nov. 20 after the international break. Until then Danks is set to lead the team against Dortmund, at Atletico Madrid and at Mainz.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala will miss the Magdeburg game, the Abendzeitung reported. Joshua Kimmich, who recently stepped away for personal reasons, is expected back this week, Danks said. Aleksandar Pavlovic is back in the squad, Sky reported.
