Former Germany international Thomas Hitzlsperger has called on the DFB to make a determined effort to win over Nicolò Tresoldi. "The DFB should do everything it can to make sure Tresoldi plays for Germany," he told ran, according to dpa. "He would definitely make the national team better."
Leaving someone alone is "not a good solution" in professional football, Hitzlsperger said: "So you should actively show him why the DFB is the right choice for him." Head coach Jürgen Klopp had previously called the striker a "great lad" but stressed: "We don't have to run after anyone."
The 22-year-old plays for Belgian champions Club Brugge and scored three goals in their 4-3 Champions League win at Inter Milan. Besides Klopp, Italy coach Roberto Mancini has also made enquiries. The Germany U21 international wants to finish his time with the U21s, including next summer's European Championship, before making a final decision.
