Bayern Munich expect to be without head coach Vincent Kompany for several weeks. "We will not be talking about days, we will be talking about weeks," sporting director Max Eberl said Saturday at the news conference ahead of the Bundesliga game at SC Freiburg. Kompany collapsed during a reserve-team training session on Friday and was taken to hospital by an emergency doctor.
"The good news is that he is stable," Eberl said, adding that he had spoken with Kompany and his wife the evening before. The club said the 40-year-old will remain in hospital for several days. There is no final diagnosis yet and further tests are planned.
Until further notice, the coaching staff led by assistant Aaron Danks will take over, including Sunday's game at Freiburg (5:30 p.m. local time). "All the football matters are in our hands now and we are working together as a team," Danks said. The reserve team's next league game was called off. Bayern will also be without Joshua Kimmich in Freiburg.
