The role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from French studio Sandfall Interactive has sold around 8.7 million copies and generated about $366 million, according to estimates by market research firm Alinea Analytics, GamesRadar+ reports. These are estimates, not official figures from the studio. Steam users account for the largest share at 58.8 percent, while Xbox makes up only 5.5 percent.

Alinea attributes the small Xbox share to Game Pass: until last week the game was included in the subscription, where it reached 4.3 million players on Xbox and PC. Alinea speaks of “cannibalisation” of Xbox sales, while PC sales were barely affected. Creative director Guillaume Broche, by contrast, has praised Game Pass for lowering the barrier to entry.

For comparison, Alinea estimates Elden Ring at 36.4 million copies and $2 billion, Baldur’s Gate 3 at 23.2 million and $1.2 billion, and Astro Bot at 4.7 million and $291 million. Like Baldur’s Gate 3, Clair Obscur won all five major Game of the Year awards.
