Conflicting statements by Bulgarian ministers caused confusion Tuesday over the investigation into the attack on the freighter Chelsea 3 in the Black Sea. Transport Minister Georgi Peev said "certain remains" had been found and would be analyzed by Bulgarian services, but could not say what they were or where they were found. The public would be informed once results were ready, he said.

Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov later said he had no idea what remains had been found or whether they came from drones or from the explosion. He urged people to wait for official information from military prosecutors and not to speculate. The badly damaged vessel is in the port of Burgas.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev said in Tvarditsa that besides examining drone remains, investigators were running a chemical analysis to identify the explosive. Teams from allied countries with high-tech equipment were due to arrive Wednesday. "We hope to get some answer as soon as possible about what type the drones are," Radev said.
