The international literary adaptation festival Cinelibri comes to Plovdiv from 23 October. The opening film is 'La bola negra' (Bulgarian: 'Черното топче') by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, the news agency BTA reports. Pedro Almodóvar is a co-producer; the film won a (shared) directing prize at Cannes and audience awards in Toronto and San Sebastián.

The drama follows three young men across several timelines and draws on an unfinished work by Federico García Lorca and on Alberto Conejero's play 'La piedra oscura'. According to BTA, Glenn Close and Penélope Cruz appear in unusual roles.

The Plovdiv programme includes 23 further screenings, among them Jean-Pierre Jeunet's adaptation of Valérie Perrin's novel 'Changer l'eau des fleurs' ('Violette') starring Leïla Bekhti, films featuring Isabelle Huppert, Nanni Moretti's new film and a new adaptation of 'Les Misérables'. The new Bulgarian festival films will also be screened in Plovdiv in early November.
