Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding in Albania and Montenegro. Parts of Albania recorded more than 100 millimetres of rain within 24 hours, according to Euronews. At least one person died: in the port city of Durrës, a 54-year-old man was found dead in an irrigation canal after being swept away by floodwaters.
In southern Albania, the Vjosa River burst its banks near Novosela in the Vlorë region, and authorities ordered evacuations. Rescuers used inflatable boats to reach trapped residents, including two elderly people whose home was flooded to around one and a half metres. Emergency crews pumped water from about 800 buildings, and around 300 people were given temporary shelter.
In Montenegro, the Zeta River flooded residential areas in Danilovgrad, affecting around 30 homes and several nearby villages. Near the capital Podgorica, soldiers and engineers built a temporary pontoon bridge to replace a crossing destroyed by the torrent. Excavators cleared drainage channels while crews worked to restore transport links.
