ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have together ordered more than three million Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards, according to a Reuters report. The list value is said to exceed 35 billion dollars, or about 11,400 dollars per card. In total, Chinese customers are said to have ordered more than six million units.
The RTX PRO 5500 is a less powerful chip that complies with US export restrictions on China. More powerful models such as the B300 cannot be sold to China, and the H200 only after case-by-case review with licensing conditions.
According to the report, Nvidia has told customers it cannot fully meet the orders: partners might receive only 5 to 10 per cent of the quantities requested. In 2027, Nvidia could produce no more than three million cards of this type worldwide.
