Vincent Kompany has returned to the training pitch ahead of Bayern Munich's Champions League clash with Arsenal (21:00 CEST, Allianz Arena). The Belgian led a roughly 45-minute activation session at Säbener Straße on Wednesday morning and then travelled with the squad to the team hotel in Unterschleissheim. On Tuesday, illness had forced him to miss the final training session and the press conference, with assistant Aaron Danks standing in.

Whether Kompany will coach from the touchline or only sit on the bench was still unclear in the afternoon. Sporting director Max Eberl said: 'He will be there, but what role he plays I can't say yet.' A decision is likely to come at short notice; the club has not yet officially confirmed Kompany's role for the match.

Bayern are without Joshua Kimmich and the suspended Michael Olise. According to kicker, Tom Bischof is set to partner Aleksandar Pavlović, with Lennart Karl replacing Olise, while Manuel Neuer is expected to return in goal. On Saturday, Bayern beat RB Leipzig 6-1 in the Bundesliga.
