Sossusvlei in Namibia is one of the world's best places for the soft light of golden hour. In the ranking by tour operator Kuoni and meteorologist Jim Dale of British Weather Services, reported by Euronews on 16 October, the desert landscape takes second place behind Wadi Rum in Jordan. According to the analysis, there is no light pollution there and a sunset lasts 27.9 minutes on average.
Namibia features twice more in the ranking – with Damaraland in third place and Etosha National Park in sixth. In all, 165 destinations were assessed for cloud cover, light pollution, artificial brightness, rainfall, wind and sunset duration; 20 made the final list, including four places in Greece. The Okavango Delta in neighbouring Botswana also ranks high, in seventh place. Clear skies and low light pollution often matter more than a destination's reputation, said Marco Rocha of Kuoni.
