Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency has opened a tender for an extended preliminary design of a new route between the Danube town of Svishtov and the Ruse–Veliko Tarnovo motorway, BNT reported. The road is intended to improve Svishtov's links to the Hemus motorway and the new motorway. Two variants through the Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse regions are being considered, about 25 and about 33 kilometres long.
The estimated value of the contract, which includes full engineering-geological surveys, is €600,000 excluding VAT, and bids are accepted until 16 November 2026. The design work is split into three stages totalling 430 calendar days. No cost or timetable has been given for construction itself.
The project is a joint initiative of the agency and Svishtov Municipality and is linked to the Svishtov–Zimnicea ferry line and the Danube Industrial Technology Park. In April 2025 it was submitted for funding under the Interreg VI-A Romania–Bulgaria 2021–2027 programme and could receive money if funds become available.
