Bulgaria's National Assembly has passed amendments to the Waste Management Act at second and final reading, BNT reported. They provide for stricter control and greater transparency in the processing and recycling of waste. The fee citizens pay when scrapping their cars will be cut tenfold.

The changes also affect the product fees that manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment pay when placing goods on the market, as well as companies that dismantle end-of-life vehicles. The Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group described the amendments as "revolutionary". We Continue the Change (PP) and Vazrazhdane, which had submitted proposals of their own, called the texts lobbyist and said they largely repeat existing provisions.
