Two employees of lawmakers from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) allegedly got into a fight while intoxicated inside the Bundestag, dpa reported Saturday, citing sources in the parliament's administration. The incident reportedly took place around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday in the foyer of the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus, a parliamentary office building. Der Spiegel first reported the incident.
According to Der Spiegel, Bundestag police were called, broke up the fight and noted signs of alcohol in both staffers. A criminal complaint was filed automatically. There was no information on injuries. Those involved are presumed innocent.
The AfD parliamentary group said it had no information on the matter so far and was looking into it. Der Spiegel previously reported that security staff at the Parliamentary Society had to be trained last year in dealing with tipsy AfD lawmakers and their guests.
