Instagram will not be getting its own dating service for now. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said so in response to a follower's question on his Instagram Story, as reported by Dexerto on 11 October and industry outlet Global Dating Insights on 12 October. Asked about dating tools, Mosseri replied: "I don't think so." A formal dating service "comes with a lot of extra work", he said, adding: "In some ways, Instagram is a dating service."
"We know that people find crushes, love, etc., all the time," Mosseri said. Story replies and Reels are "conversation starters, excuses to reach out to someone" – "we know a lot goes down in the DMs." People do use Instagram to help them date, he said, but the company has not built a formal dating service with profiles and swiping. Back in September 2025, Mosseri said almost all of Instagram's recent growth came from DMs, Reels and recommendations.
Meta already runs a dating product: Facebook Dating launched in the US in 2019. Users can add Instagram photos to their profiles, and its "Secret Crush" feature includes people they follow on Instagram. In September 2025, Meta added an AI dating assistant and a "Meet Cute" feature that suggests a surprise match once a week. According to Meta figures from November 2025 cited by Global Dating Insights, Facebook Dating has 21.5 million daily users in 52 countries.
