President Donald Trump travels to Mississippi on Monday for an evening rally at the Crossroads Arena in Corinth, set for 6 p.m. local time, in support of Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith. According to The Associated Press, a late-October presidential stop in one of the country's most reliably Republican states was not part of the GOP's plans.

Hyde-Smith, seeking a second full term, remains the favorite. But her Democratic challenger, local prosecutor Scott Colom, has outraised her, the AP reported; he would be the state's first Black senator since Reconstruction. Former Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned for him last week. Democrats have not won a Senate seat in Mississippi since 1982.

Democrats hold 47 Senate seats and need to flip at least four to win control. Almost 30 million Americans have already voted, according to the AP. Colom's campaign recently took down an AI-generated video of Hyde-Smith after the state attorney general warned it could violate Mississippi's deepfake law.
