MB&F revives its first Legacy Machine – smaller and sportier

Geneva watch brand MB&F unveiled the LM1 EVO in mid-October, an evolution of the 2011 Legacy Machine N°1. The original won the Public Prize and the Best Men's Watch Prize at the 2012 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. The new version joins the sportier EVO family, which began in 2020 with the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO. The case shrinks from 44 to 42 millimetres, is 16.8 millimetres thick and water-resistant to 80 metres. There is no bezel; a high-domed sapphire crystal arches over the dial and its 14-millimetre balance wheel.

At the heart of the watch are two time displays that can be set independently of each other – including offsets of 30 or 45 minutes. Alternatively, one display can track elapsed time. The hand-wound movement, developed with Jean-François Mojon and with finishing specifications by Kari Voutilainen, now runs for 60 hours instead of 45. The power reserve is shown by an inclined indicator at six o'clock, replacing the earlier vertical display. Integrated rubber straps that can be changed without tools are also new.

MB&F offers the watch in titanium with black displays and blue hands, and in rose gold with a green dial plate; the gold version is limited to 33 pieces. Founder Maximilian Büsser once framed the Legacy Machine idea with the question of what would have happened had he been born in 1867 instead of 1967. The LM1 EVO was also shown at the WatchTime New York fair from 16 to 18 October. The brand's video presents the watch.
