German wiring harness maker Kromberg & Schubert has halted production at its plant in Lutsk in western Ukraine. Russian drones struck the facility on Oct. 16, the company's Ukrainian unit said on Facebook on Saturday: "Operations have been suspended!" According to the Kyiv Independent, the plant supplies cable systems for BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Skoda vehicles.
The safety, lives and health of every employee are an "absolute priority," the company said. It said it was assessing the situation and coordinating next steps, and that employees would be informed as soon as they could return. No estimate was given of how long the shutdown would last. According to the company website, about 5,500 people worked at the plant in May 2025; the Ukrainian unit has existed since 2005.
Lutsk has repeatedly been targeted by Russian attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022. On Oct. 14, six people were killed there, five of them in a major warehouse fire, according to Governor Roman Romaniuk. A Coca-Cola facility near Kyiv had already been damaged on Sept. 3.
