Combine harvester and farm machinery maker Claas announced on Saturday evening (10 October), at the 70th anniversary of its plant in Paderborn (North Rhine-Westphalia), an investment of over EUR 70m and more than 100 new jobs (Radio Hochstift, 11 October). According to Neue Westfälische (12 October), around 100 jobs will be in making gearboxes and crawler undercarriages. Claas bought neighbouring land from Heidelberg Materials for this. The company gave no timetable.

In Coswig (Meissen district, Saxony), the Walzengießerei Coswig roll foundry will stop production at the end of November. All 170 remaining employees have received notice (Berliner Kurier, 11 October, citing Sächsische Zeitung and Bild). The company has been insolvent since November 2025, and no buyer was found. At that time about 220 people still worked there.

The week ahead: the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) publishes final September inflation on Tuesday, 13 October (preliminary 3.3%, core inflation excluding energy and food 2.4%), wholesale prices for September on Wednesday, and building permits for August on Friday, 16 October. The latest insolvency data remain those of 9 October: 2,373 company insolvencies in July, 8.0% more than a year earlier.

The table has 2 new entries. The investment total is EUR 2.47bn (2.40 + 0.07), and announced job cuts with a firm number total 5,840 (5,670 + 170). To keep the table at 25 rows, six entries without a firm amount or job number were removed (McCain, KmB, Zalando, Rheinmetall/Alstom Kassel, Audi, EU raw-material projects). This does not change the totals.
