A woman died on Friday morning in Berlin's Wedding district after a suspected traffic accident. Witnesses called emergency services at around 9:45 a.m. after finding her badly injured in the road on Hollaenderstrasse. Attempts to resuscitate her failed. Police reported the incident on X; she died at the scene. Her age and identity have not yet been released.

Based on initial witness statements and inquiries, officers believe the woman was struck by a vehicle whose driver then left the scene. A police spokesperson said a hit-and-run was currently assumed; the investigation is ongoing. Police initially gave no details about the vehicle, a suspect or exactly how the collision happened.

It is also unclear whether witnesses saw the collision itself or only found the woman afterwards. Leaving the scene of an accident without permission is a criminal offence in Germany, and in fatal cases investigators routinely also examine possible negligent homicide. Until the case is resolved, the unknown driver is presumed innocent.
